One of the boxing greats has retired. Oscar De La Hoya has decided to hang up the gloves with a record of 39-6 with 30 KOs. He had an awesome career winning gold medals, holding belts in 6 different divisions and defeating greats like Chavez, Whitaker, Trinidad, Mosely, Hopkins, and Vargas.
Oscar had recent difficulties of late, going 8-6 in his last 14 fights. Good numbers for most boxers, not for Oscar. The beginning of the end was probably when he failed to put away “Money” Mayweather and lost his Super Welterweight Title in 2007. Oscar lost his last fight by TKO to Manny Pacquiao.
Oscar De La Hoya may be retired but we have some great memories. He was a really great fighter and entertainer. While some of us hope he re-considers and comes back after a year or two off, he seems content with his decision to call it quits. And really, with a wife like Millie Corretjer, wouldn’t you want to just chill with your lady from now on?
